FLAGRANTES

        O Cartão-Postal serviu também para cristalizar através dos tempos, determinados instantes que se perderiam para sempre. Flagrantes de personalidades, acontecimentos sociais e cerimônias foram eventualmente registrados, permitindo às gerações futuras e principalmente a pessoas de imaginação, alcançar um passado inatingível e "presenciar" um momento curioso para se recordar. Longe de imagens idealizadas, esses instantâneos são, na verdade, fragmentos suspensos e incomuns de realidades distantes.
        Da coleção destacamos dois cartões-postais portugueses editados em Lisboa em 1905/6. O primeiro, da série Retratos/actores traz João Rosa, Chaby Pinheiro, Júlio Dantas, Augusto Rosa e Eduardo Brazão num grupo de personalidades, após o almoço oferecido pela empresa proprietária do Teatro D.Amélia, ao seu diretor e empresário Visconde de São Luiz de Braga* (1864-1918), no Jardim de inverno do Teatro, em 1902. O segundo, da série Actores, mostra a célebre atriz francesa Julia Bartet rodeada pelos convidados do almoço que o próprio Visconde lhe ofereceu no Teatro, durante sua estada em Portugal, no mesmo ano.

*Filho de portugueses, Luiz de Braga Junior nasceu no Brasil, no Rio Grande do Sul e iniciou sua carreira de empresário teatral em 1882. Após a Proclamação da República (1889), construiu fortuna, partindo para Portugal, onde destacou-se notadamente na direção do Teatro D.Amélia, de Lisboa, o que o fez merecer o titulo de Visconde de São Luiz de Braga.

MOMENTS

        The postcard was also helpful for freezing in time certain moments which could otherwise have been lost forever. Flashes of personalities, social events and activities were registered fortuitously, thus allowing future generations, and mainly people with imagination, to grasp at na unreacheable past and "witness" a curious moment to be remembered. Far from being idealized images, these flashes are truly suspended and uncomon fragments of distant realities.
        Two Portuguese postcards published in Lisboa in 1905/6 stand out in this collection. The first, from the Portraits/Actors series bring us Joao Rosa, Chaby Pinheiro, Julio Dantas, Augusto Rosa and Eduardo Brazao in a group of personalities, after the lunch offered to the director and impresario of the Teatro Dona Amelia, Viscount of São Luiz de Braga* (1864-1918), y the company who owned it, and which took place in the winter garden of the same theater. The second one, from the series Actors, shows the famous French actress Julia Bartei surrounded by guests at the lunch the same Viscond offered her during her stay in Portugal on the same year.

*The son of Portuguese parents, Luiz de Braga Junior, was born in Brasil, in Rio Grande do Sul, and began his career as a theatrical impresario in 1882. After the Proclamation of the Republic (1889) he built a fortune, and left for Portugal where he stood out noticeably at the direction of D.Amelia Theatre, which allowed him to deserve the title of Viscount of São Luiz de Braga.
