Na
Belle Époque se despedia com esplendor uma fase brilhante da História
da Humanidade. Logo as realidades terríveis do mundo iam se impor
sobre os prazeres da vida e as tertulias da inteligência. A Primeira
Guerra Mundial, deflagrada pelo conflito entre as nações
na Europa em 1914, com estupidez e insanidade iria originar vertiginosamente
a impressionante sequência de mudanças que caracterizam o
século XX. Também a História da Arte assinalaria
o rápido desenvolvimento de uma modalidade nova e revolucionária
de expressão artística, misteriosa, fascinante e mágica,
complexa e semi-industrial, baseada em talento, emoção e
sentimentos, mas basicamente amparada na técnica, e que se tornaria
dominante no século: a Arte Cinematográfica, reunião
de todas as artes.
Inaugurando uma nova era, o Cinema Mudo fabricaria, então, sucessivamente,
além de fantasias e sonhos, astros e estrelas, que passariam a
ditar a moda e encantariam multidões, como Celebridades e Mitos,
com um novo tipo de carisma e sedução.
SILENT MOVIES
During the Belle Epoque a brilliant phase of the History of Humanity was
splendorously ending. The terrible realities of the world would soon impose
themselves over the pleasures of life and the cultural assemblies of intelligence.
The outburst of the First World War, brought about by the conflict among
nations in 1914 Europe, would, with its stupidity and insanity, vertiginously
originate the striking series of changes that characterize the XXth century.
The history of art would also point to the new and revolutionary means
of artistic expression; a mysterious, fascinating and magical one, complex
and semi-industrial, based upon talent, emotion and feeling, but basically
supported by a technical background, and which would dominate the century:
the Cinematographic Art, the art that is the incorporaion of every Art.
Innaugurating a new era, the silent movies would from then on, produce
successively, besides the fantasies and dreams, the actors and stars that
would dictate new fashions and charm the crowds as Celebrities and Myths
with a new kind of charisma and fascination.
