VAUDEVILLE

        Uma das modalidades mais antigas de representação, o Teatro de variedades, tão diversificado em temas, generos e artistas e que tem como denominador comum a simples diversão das platéias, elas também heterogêneas, encontrou em algumas épocas e lugares uma importância culminante.
        O genero Vaudeville, com origens do século XVIII, tornou-se destacado e querido na França desde o século passado, dali se difundindo pelas nações civilizadas como esportação da Arte musical e teatral francesa, especialmente para os Estados Unidos.
Os três vultos desse painel foram gloriosas figuras dessa forma artística tão popular: Mistinguett, Maurice Chevalier e Josephine Baker, que se tornaram inesquecíveis, registrados definitivamente nas crônicas do Teatro como astros de talento incomum e uma insuperável, sutil e misteriosa capacidade de comunicação com o seu público.
        Mistinguett, cantora e atriz teatral, encontrou sua verdadeira glória ao se exibir no Moulin Rouge e no Folies-Bergere , onde foi a mais famosa partner de Maurice Chevalier e onde iria estabelecer para sempre a fama da beleza de suas pernas. Veio ao Brasil em 1923 e em 1939.
        Maurice Chevalier, ator, cantor e dançarino que teve uma das carreiras mais longas e triunfais, com sua simpatia cativante, suas falas descontraídas e cúmplices e suas cançonetas alegres e maliciosas, sintetizou o espírito parisiense e a felicidade de viver. Chevalier levou sua arte a outros países como a Inglaterra e os Estados Unidos, onde atuou, também, no cinema.
        Josephine Baker, dançarina e cantora norte-americana, de corpo escultural, viria a devolver a Europa a sedução que os Estados Unidos haviam importado do Music hall inglês e do Vaudeville francês. Foi uma figura nova e exótica para os europeus que ficaram fascinados pelo seu estilo ardente e sensual. Apresentou-se no Brasil em 1929, 1939, 1952 e 1963. Ainda são lembradas suas exibições no Cassino da Urca.

        One of the oldest forms of entertainment, the Variety Show, with its different themes, genres and performers has as its common denominator the simple task of entertaining the audiences, which are also quite dissimilar themselves and found a culminant importance during certain times and places.
        The Vaudeville genre, originating in the XVIIIth. Century, became popular and well liked in France since the last century, and from there was divulged around the civilized nations as an export product of French musical and theatrical art, especially to the United States.
         The three images in this panel were glorious figures of such a popular artistic form: Mistinguett, Maurice Chevalier and Josephine Baker, all of whom became unforgettable, forever registered in the historical theatrical records as uncommonly talented stars and as having a subtle and mysterious capacity of communicating with their public.
        Mistinguett, a singer and theatre actress, met her true glory performing at the Moulin Rouge and the Folies Bergere, when she was Maurice Chevalier's most famous partner, and where she would establish the fame for her famous legs forever.
        Josephine Baker, a North American singer and dancer with a sculptural figure, would return back to Europe the seduction that the United States had imported from the English Music Hall and the French Vaudeville. She was a new and exotic image for the Europeans who became fascinated by her sensuous and burning style.
